The Department of Pediatrics and Child Neuropsychiatry was born on 1st July 2010 from the merger between the Department of Pediatrics and that of Neurological, Psychiatric and Rehabilitation Sciences to the Evolution Age.

Attention to children and adolescents, common to both disciplines, was the assumption, coherent and logical, for the union of the two departments. In this context the activities of research, training and promotion of the health of the child, made an interdisciplinary approach, involving neonatology, different branches of pediatrics and those of neuropsychiatry, becomes the mission of the Department.

Not only the child, the adolescent, but also their families are the recipients of the Institute, as well as students of the disciplines taught therein and academics engaged in research. For everyone, the Department intends to offer services and tools to satisfy their needs, the objective of continuous improvement of quality of care provided.

The landmark, the values, to which all the staff at the Institute are based are enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (Convention on the Rigths of the Child), approved by the General Assembly of the United Nations November 20, 1989 (ratified Convention in Italy in 1991). A clear example of the art. 6 for which Member States undertake the maximum of available resources to protect the life and the healthy development of children, including through mutual cooperation; Article. 19, whereby Member shall take all appropriate legislative, administrative, social and educational measures to protect the child from all forms of violence, injury or physical or mental violence, neglect or negligent treatment, maltreatment or exploitation, including violence sexual.

The reference framework of values is not complete unless it cites Article. 33 of the Italian Constitution which states: "Art and science are free and free is their teaching", which means that teaching is any event, even isolated, of his own thought that, regarding the art and science, enlighten others on the development of culture and scientific and technical research.
